Will Kara Killmer return for Chicago Fire season 13 after that season finale cameo?

Sylvie Brett may be gone, but she still has a presence within Chicago Fire. The character left halfway through the show’s 12th season, after her wedding to Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer). That being said, it was Brett who spurred one of the most crucial moments of the entire season.

The character sent a text message to Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) of her adopted daughter, and it sets up a crucial exchange between the 51 veteran and her husband, Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). The two discuss the possibility of starting a family, and Severide, who previously showed no interest in becoming a father, told Kidd that he was ready.

Brett is still involved in the lives of 51 members

It was an unexpected development for both the viewer and Kidd, and using Brett as the impetus behind it was a clever move on the part of the writers. It makes the character feel as though she’s still a crucial part of the show, despite living in another state.

So what does this mean for a possible return?

Well, Kara Killmer, the actress who plays Brett, is definitely down. She told The Hollywood Reporter that she would be happy to return to the firefighting drama in season 13, as long as there was a logical narrative reason:

If they need Sylvie to come back and straighten them out, I’m more then happy to show up anytime.
Chicago Fire brought back Casey in a similar fashion

Brett still works as a medic in Oregon (at least, she was looking at medic gigs when she left), so there is a possibility that a case could come about that brings the character back to Chicago for a single or multi-episode arc.

Chicago Fire already pulled a similar narrative tactic with Casey. The character returned to Firehouse 51 on business, even though he had the ulterior motive of trying to reconnect with Brett (it obviously worked).

Brett’s ulterior motive for returning may not be that strong, but hey, visiting old friends and delighting the fans is reason enough for us!
