On *The Young and the Restless*, Nick recently reminded Sharon that everyone gets a little grumpy and short-tempered sometimes. However, this being a soap opera, we suspect there’s more to the story than Sharon just having a bad day. Longtime viewers know that Sharon’s reference to her medication for bipolar disorder is a significant part of her character in recent years. Before being properly diagnosed and medicated, Sharon’s behavior turned very dark, leading her to burn down the Newman Ranch and marry Victor twice.
The Victor and Sharon storyline was wildly unpopular, not just with the audience but also with Eric Braeden, who played Victor. During a recent Twitter exchange, he admitted it was one of the worst-executed storylines on the show, saying it actually pissed him off.
On the plus side, Sharon’s behavior was recognized as a cry for help, which she received. But now, as she told her ex-husband Nick, her medications have recently been adjusted, which might explain why she seems slightly off. It seems unlikely, however, to be a coincidence that Nick is the one who noticed his high school sweetheart’s mood change.
We’re quickly approaching a special episode slated to air on Friday, June 21st, marking Joshua Morrow’s 30th anniversary on the show. In it, Nick will reflect on his often complicated past, including his romance with Sharon, which seems like a strong indicator that a Nick and Sharon reunion might be in the works. After all, her rival Phyllis is otherwise occupied with her recently reawakened obsession with Danny, and Nick hasn’t had a significant love interest in what feels like years.
As for Sharon, her brief alliance with Chance seemed to have potential until he was drawn into Summer’s orbit. Aside from that, she’s had no real storyline since the tragic death of her late husband, Rey Rosales.
Finally, considering that current head writer Josh Griffith seems to enjoy rehashing the past and reuniting former couples, such as Danny and Cricket, a Nick and Sharon reunion seems quite likely. Stay tuned to see how this heartbreaking and dramatic story unfolds!
