During Friday’s second installment of the ‘Sister Wives Talk Back’ special, Janelle Brown denied her sister wife Christine’s assessment that she needed “encouragement” to leave her marriage to Kody
Janelle Brown is shutting down her sister wife Christine’s take about her split from Kody Brown.
During part 2 of the Sister Wives Talk Back special, Christine shared how her life has changed since ending her marriage to Kody in November 2021 and encouraged Janelle, 54, to find a new path following her split from the family patriarch.
“From the day that I asked him to not stay there anymore, I took my life back and I got it back and I became stronger that day…,” explained Christine, 51. “I’m not saying that Janelle has to follow the same path and she has [a] way different situation than mine, but she needs to know it is OK on the other side.”
Despite Christine’s good intentions, Janelle felt her assessment was unfair, noting in an interview that, “This narrative that Christine talks about all the time frustrates me. I’m fine. I am separated from Kody.”
She explained, “Kody and I are no longer going to be together, and she acts like I’m sitting here needing encouragement to leave, I need to be shown that it’s OK — and that’s just bulls— because I have left. I have three children that still live in Flagstaff. So why would I not stay here? I like Flagstaff. I have three kids here.”
She continued, “Just because I can’t move away right now because the assets are all scrambled — I can’t take my part of our estate and go somewhere — and the fact that I’m not dating and I’m not trying to move out of state, it’s like I’m not sitting here needing to be told that I have the power to leave. I’ve left, I just didn’t move.”
Janelle “spiritually” wed Kody in 1993, joining his plural marriage with Meri Brown. Janelle spent 29 years with Kody and welcomed six children with him before their separation in December 2022.
The final episode of the Sister Wives: One on One special earlier this month, Janelle spoke with host Sukanya Krishnan about the possibility of rekindling her broken marriage.
“I don’t foresee that we will ever reconcile, I don’t,” she shared. “It would be some sort of, like, magic fairy tale where we all transformed into some sort of different people, and that doesn’t happen in real life.”
But Janelle did, however, see the now-exes becoming friends at some point. “I still have such high regard for him,” she admitted. “I can remember all the good times, but I don’t want to reconcile.”
In thinking about how “happy” Kody currently is with fourth wife Robyn Brown, Janelle said she’s “OK” with them moving on and added, “Maybe some day, I’d like to find the same thing. But not right now.”
Despite Kody’s civil ex dynamic with Janelle, he and his first ex-wife Christine haven’t managed to remain entirely fond of each other in the wake of their split. (Christine was the first of Kody’s four wives to leave him back, triggering a domino effect that resulted in the end of his relationships with Janelle and Meri within 14 months.)
While joined by now-husband David Woolley, Christine said she couldn’t be herself with Kody since he “only wanted me to be positive” and he “only wanted me to be fun.” She also claimed that Kody “only liked the fun little bubbly part of me” and she’s “not going to stuff it anymore,” especially now that she has found happiness with David.
