Severide better not be leaving Chicago Fire after THAT big reveal

With the way things ended for Severide in the Chicago Fire season 12 finale, there’s no way the show can write him out just yet. The writers better not do!

A lot happened in the Chicago Fire season 12 finale. Secrets came out, truths were shared, and there were hints at promotions. Some of those events surrounded Kelly Severide.

We end another season worrying about whether we’ll lose more OG characters. We all knew that Boden was leaving, with Eamonn Walker stepping down as a series regular. The series has kept it open for him to return as a guest star, which was hinted at when Walker’s exit was announced.

What about Kelly Severide, though? Fans are worried that Taylor Kinney will leave the show, especially after his abrupt exit during season 11. With the way things ended for Severide in the season 12 finale, he can’t leave.

Severide wants to take the next steps with Kidd in Chicago Fire

First of all, it’s clear that the writers want to bring more Stellaride moments. The start of this season saw the two on the rocks, but they managed to figure out how to balance everything. Kidd was able to trust that Severide could handle arson cases and come back. Severide proved that he understood Kidd’s fears and promised not to run away again.

By the end of the season, he’s made it clear that he’s not running anyway. He wants to take the next steps with Kidd.

As Brett sent a photo of baby Julia to Kidd, the topic of babies came up. Severide wants to start a family with Kidd, but he isn’t pushing it. He understands what that means for Kidd, and he’s put the ball firmly in her court at this point. This has to be something that is discussed in Chicago Fire season 13.

Damon’s secret keeps Severide in the Chicago Fire story

Then we have the Jack Damon storyline. At the end of the Chicago Fire season 12 finale, we finally got Damon’s secret. He is related to Severide, but not in the way we initially suspected. Damon isn’t Severide’s son but Severide’s brother. Benny is Damon’s father.

This opens the door for a lot of drama and conversation. The idea of Severide coming out of the series after that big reveal doesn’t make any sense at all. There’s no way the writers would put that storyline in at the end of the season if they knew Kinney was planning on stepping away from the series. It would have been too much of a risk.

Yes, we’re always worried that Severide is leaving Chicago Fire, but he better not be on this occasion. There are too many storylines to revisit in season 13.
