NBC’s famous drama Chicago Fire is having a fiery 12th season.
The show was renewed a month before season 11 ended in May 2023, but SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes delayed production on the next season. Fans have been anxiously waiting to see what Kelly Severide, Randall “Mouch” McHolland and Sylvie Brett would do, and they got these answers when the series returns in January 2024.
New seasons of Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med — also part of Dick Wolf’s One Chicago series — will air on NBC the same night.
Season 11 leaves a lot of questions for viewers. Severide, played by Taylor Kinney, was absent from the finale after retiring from acting. Jesse Spencer returns to reprise his role as Captain Matt Casey in the same episode, in which many of the main characters leave fans wondering about the fate of their favorite characters in season 12.

What happened at the end of Chicago Fire season 11?
Season 11 of Chicago Fire brought changes to Firehouse 51, both in the firefighters’ work and personal lives. A major standout character features Mouch (Christian Stolte), who is hit by a bullet during a phone call. He had to have emergency surgery and it was not revealed at the end of the episode whether he died or not.
Captain Casey reappears after moving to Oregon to become legal guardian of his teenage sons whose father, a Firehouse 51 firefighter and friend of Casey’s, died on the job.
His relationship with Brett (Kara Killmer) remained unresolved at the beginning of season 11 as long distance caused tension between the duo and they eventually broke up. However, Casey surprised Brett when he proposed to her in the season 11 finale.
In November 2023, PEOPLE confirmed that Killmer would leave the show in season 12, although it was unclear how many episodes she would appear in. After seeing Casey’s proposal, fans guessed that the couple and Brett’s new baby (whom she adopted during the season) were in the mix. 11) will likely move west in season 12.
