Casualty’s Teddy Gowan star details fear of ‘losing everything’ as assailant returns to ED

EXCLUSIVE: Casualty paramedic Teddy Gowan, played by Milo Clarke, is currently at the centre of a huge storyline after highlighting sexual assault on men.

Casualty’s Teddy Gowan (Played by Milo Clarke) has been struggling ever since he was sexually assaluted on the job recently. Things get even worse for the popular Paramedic in the latest instalment of the long running BBC medical drama when he comes face to face with his attacker again, as she shows up in Holby ED.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk actor Milo explained how Teddy is feeling, saying that he is worried about “losing everything”. “I think it’s very scary,” he ponders.

“He knows everyone, everybody knows him and I think that’s where there’s a big risk, because even though we’ve seen a lot of the cases – he said, she said – I think because it’s in work and it’s happened to Teddy, he has a lot to lose – which is his job. And to Teddy, his job is everything.

“That’s where an element of him being scared comes from most, about losing that [his job], which would be everything. He doesn’t know what to do, doesn’t know how to act.

“I think it’s very scary for him when he sees her. I think it’s just the realisation again, the shock again, ‘no, this this did happen to me’. I kind of do have to face it. You want her to say sorry – and I think the fact that she kind of doesn’t is awful. She shows no remorse,” he ruminates.

“I mean that even pushes it into a wierder place. Because then I think he starts questioning himself. I think he might even question himself – ‘what did I do to aid that?’

“And I think that’s a constant battle in his head and I think that’s what happens with a lot of people who are in these situations. ‘What did I do? Oh my gosh, how could I have stopped it?’ You start blaming yourself, and I think that’s what makes it sadder,” Milo says.

The young paramedic was assaulted after he and colleague Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) were called out to a hen party. The bride had earlier injured her ankle and Teddy was keen to treat her in the ambulance rather than the pub. However, the party beat him to it and were all in the back of the vehicle with her when he arrived outside.

He argued that only one of them could go with her and as he tried to clear them out, her bridesmaid sinisterly closed the ambulance doors. When viewers saw Teddy emerge he was visibly shaken and had clearly been assaulted by the group.

After three years on the show, Milo is loving being at the heart of such an impactful storyline.

“I felt quite proud that they would trust me with a story like this. And all I want to do is do it justice. It is a huge responsibility.

“Hopefully, I get a conversation started and hopefully people begin to speak up and want to speak up about it, because I think, especially in regards to men’s mental health, there’s a lack of conversation a lot of the time, or when they’re scared – they don’t know where to start – because they feel like everyone’s going to kind of make light of it.

“I think it’s comforting to know that someone else has gone through it. That’s what can start conversations, and I think it should with men [who have been through] what Teddy’s gone through, that they will be able to speak up,” he contemplated.
