Casualty’s Faith Cadogan details how she feels about Patrick Onley’s mistrust

EXCLUSIVE: Kirsty Mitchell, who plays Faith Cadogan in Casualty, has opened up about her characters latest storyline.

Casualty’s Faith Cadogan (played by Kirsty Mitchell) learns she is finally allowed to prescribe drugs to patients again.

As ever in the BBC medical drama, it is not that straightforward. She had been on probation since she returned to the ED in January following her stint in rehab where she treated for drug addiction.

However she quickly learns that despite seemingly proving herself Clinical Lead Patrick Onley (Jamie Glover) clearly doesn’t trust her when he asks clinical nurse manager Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill) to keep an eye on her. This latest setback comes after a patient announced that she was an addict to the entire ED last week.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk actress Kirsty admitted Faith is not surprised by recent events and was prepared for a backlash. “She’s getting on with it, and it’s great and things change and she can now prescribe. Things are moving forward for her. But she’s going to expect that [mistrust] at some point,” she said.

“These things are going to come back and bite her and she’s just got to be ready to deal with it and have the right head on,” Kirsty explained. “I think she knew she was expecting them to be [a bit mistrusting].

“She was shocked that he [Patrick] was the one saying everything’s great go forward. But again, you just have to grin and bear it. You have to get on with it because the last thing she wants to do is mix anything up. She just wants to get on with their job and for everything to be drama free.

“The fact that he’s gone behind her back to Siobhan is another thing. [But] no one can be expected to know that I’m [Faith] fully clean.

“Because let’s be honest, there’s always a temptation and proving yourself over six months isn’t really long enough when you’ve been doing something which she’s been doing

“I think she’s got her head screwed on as far as, as far as the repercussions of what she’s done are going to come and get her, but her main aim is to stay calm and stay clean.

“There’s certainly an element of here we go again, something else [to worry about]. I think she’s come back after her addiction…she’s got to just take things in her stride basically.

“I think she’s come back as a person going: ‘Things are gonna happen that I can’t expect. Things are gonna hit me in the face’.

“And I think that she knows it’s gonna take a long, long time to prove herself and we don’t even know what’s going to happen with the kids and repercussions of what she’s put them through and what she’s done to everybody.

“What she did was massive. So she’s just gonna have to bite the bullet for a while and prove herself continuously until there’s another drama. But I think she’s ready for it to be a long time [proving herself].
