“They’re like two stags locking horns!”
Casualty newcomer Jamie Glover has revealed tensions between his character Patrick Onley and Dylan Keogh.
The The Crown and Waterloo Road star, who previously appeared in the soap’s sister series Holby City in a number of guest roles, made his first appearance as the hospital’s new Clinical Lead on Saturday (March 23).
Speaking to Inside Soap, Glover explained that his entrance won’t be plain sailing, as Patrick clashes with the notoriously abrupt consultant Dylan (William Beck).
“They’re like two stags locking horns! Patrick likes to think he has the upper hand on Dylan, and will try to make that happen whether by fair means or foul. He pushes some buttons that maybe you shouldn’t push,” he said.
The actor also shared how Patrick gets on with some of the other characters, saying: “He definitely sees himself as a mentor to a lot of the younger staff, he gives them a lot of leeway and a lot of responsibility, which I think they thrive on.
“Be he can also rub some of the more experienced staff up the wrong way! He does have a couple of run-ins with the more senior members of the team, but I think he would say that he’s doing everything for the right reasons.”
Speaking previously about his casting, Glover called the series a “national treasure”, adding: “Having been a fan of the show since its very first inception (yep, I’m that old), it is a real honour to be joining the incredible team at Casualty.
“I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to be working with such a dedicated, skilful group of people who care so passionately about the minutiae of each episode as well as the show’s wider impact. Casualty is quite rightly considered a national treasure. And it is a privilege to board the bus for a part of its journey.”
The soap has also welcomed Killing Eve‘s Manpreet Bachu and actress Sammy T Dobson, who will play junior doctors Tariq Hussein and Nicole Piper.
