Casualty launches summer trailer as Emmerdale’s Ryan Hawley joins show

An EastEnders star is joining the cast too!

Casualty has launched its dramatic summer trailer and released a first look at Emmerdale’s Ryan Hawley in a new soap role.

After last week’s powerful episode, a new boxset titled ‘Storm Damage’ will begin airing this Saturday, with a trailer available to watch now.

Hawley is already a familiar face in soapland, having played fan-favourite character Robert Sugden in Emmerdale for five years.

Robert was one half of ‘Robron’ in his relationship with Aaron Dingle, but it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing him back in the Dales anytime soon. In 2019 he was sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum of 14 years, for killing Lee Posner.

In the meantime, Hawley has a new role in Casualty playing Jamie Cleveland, a member of the board at Holby who is an old friend of Cam.

Another soap regular will also be joining the cast in Kellie Shirley, who played Shirley Carter’s daughter Carly Wicks in EastEnders between 2006 and 2012.

Shirley will make her first appearance in the show this weekend and will play psych nurse Sophia, who quickly makes an impression on Dylan.

‘Storm Damage’ will centre around a city-wide flash flood that hits the area, with the ED team tasked with picking up the pieces.

Following a traumatic shift alongside Siobhan, Cam is left questioning his future at Holby, while also having to confront his past.

Other stories set to be explored include Stevie’s connection with firefighter Rich that threatens to burn them both, and Tariq’s concerns as Rash returns to the ED.

Meanwhile, as Iain and Faith resume their relationship, he gets closer to her son Luca, but things soon take a dramatic turn, and they all end up in danger.

The previous episode saw the departure of clinical lead Patrick Onley (Jamie Glover), after Dylan and Stevie aimed to expose his incompetence.

Though he had a new job offer to develop a trauma centre in Edinburgh, a phone call from Dylan to his superiors means it is likely that his career is in tatters.

Casualty airs on Saturday nights on BBC One and now streams first on BBC iPlayer, where episodes are released at 6am on the day of transmission.
