Casualty fans gutted as show confirms it’s bid farewell to beloved character

Last Saturday’s episode of Casualty saw a character hand in their resignation, but fans didn’t think they had actually left the show.

Casualty fans have been left gutted after the show’s social media account confirmed that Eddie-Joe Robinson, who played Ryan Firth has officially left the show. The show’s official accounts posted a picture of Eddie-Joe with castmates Sarah Seggari, Anna Chell and Barney Cooper.

They captioned it: “When four become three… We will miss you Eddie-Joe! #Casualty.” The post refers to the fact the four started on the same day playing new staff nurses in Holby ED.

Fans watched his character resign in last Saturday’s episode following a vicious assault. However, it seems that many of them were not expecting the actor to actually leave the show.

Although he only joined the show in April 2023 he had made quite an impression on viewers. In his time on the show, he has proved quite the ladies’ man.

He also caused a lot of problems for fellow nurse Jodie Whyte (played by Anna Chell) when he told people he believed that she was sleeping with clinical lead Max Cristie (Nigel Harman). He was unaware that she was actually Max’s daughter and his speculation forced them to reveal their relationship.

Fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express their surprise that he was really gone.

@HelenT80 commented: “Was hoping that Ryan was going to change his mind in a few weeks and come back to the department, will be sorry to see him go.”

@ryan_da_lion expressed his surprise at his departure, writing: “Wow didn’t know he actually left.”

@sloppierport77 concurred: “I didn’t think Ryan would leave so early : (.” (Sic) @Sidebottom4211 chimed in: “It is shame he is gone loved his storey lines x.” (Sic)

Meanwhile, @Clare_Everitt lamented: “NOOOO!! Ryan was one of my favourite characters.” (Sic)

@Rhonddalad

Genuinely thought Eddie would stay a bit longer. His character had promise.

Last Saturday’s (January 6) Casualty epsiode saw Holby ED still reeling from the vicious assault Ryan suffered the previous week and he was really struggling to cope.

Although ED stalwart Charlie Fairhead (Derek Thompson) tried to help him work through it the young nurse wasn’t responsive to him.

Completely traumatised by what had happened as he checked out of the hospital he started to panic and ultimately resigned, handing in his ID badge.
