BBC Casualty’s Dylan Keogh’s future ‘confirmed’ weeks after dramatic exit

Casualty’s Dylan Keogh returned to screens over the weekend and viewers have been left wondering his fate just weeks after he stormed out of the department

BBC Casualty enthusiasts are all chiming in with the same reaction as Dylan Keogh’s fate seems ‘sealed’.

In the latest episode of the medical drama, Casualty’s Dylan Keogh (portrayed by William Beck) made a comeback on screens after leaving fans in suspense about his future when he stormed out of the ED. The uncertainty over whether audiences had witnessed the last of him was put to rest as his colleague Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) paid him a visit at his abode.

Still reeling from the loss of two patients and convinced he overlooked a penicillin allergy, Dylan was found immersed in stacks of research papers. “This is a deep dive, Dylan,” Stevie observed. “We wouldn’t be here if I’d read them earlier,” he lamented. “You know you shouldn’t be kicking yourself for a one-in-10,000 event,” Stevie scolded.

“But he wasn’t just one there was another patient that died completely avoidable,” Dylan retorted sharply. Stevie attempted to reassure him that mistakes leading to a patient’s death involve more than just one person, but Dylan was not consoled. “Please don’t. You wouldn’t have missed a penicillin allergy, would you? I wouldn’t expect that in a first-year [student doctor],” he challenged her.

Admitting his doubts, he said, “I’ve just assumed the patients are safe with me. But perhaps they’re not perhaps I’ve been relying on muscle memory,” revealing his profound unease. He then disclosed that Clinical Lead Patrick Onley’s (Jamie Glover) suggestion that he might be autistic seemed to have struck a chord, as he told Stevie he was getting tested. Not content to leave it at that, she asked him to walk her through everything he had researched.

However, there was no hint as to whether he would return to the ED or if this was the start of an exit storyline. Regardless of the circumstances, fans were thrilled to see him back on screen. They took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express their thoughts.

One wrote: “Bring Dylan back…#Casualty.” A second chimed in: “Dylan is doubting himself as a doctor bless him #casualty.” A third observed: “I’m autistic and relate to Dylan so much – It’s realistic, sadly people like Patrick exist. His behaviour towards Dylan being autistic and making him think he can’t do his job because of that has really affected Dylan’s confidence and is making him question everything. #casualty.”

Another commented: “They’re doing Dylan’s storyline brilliantly – really showing how people who have an attitude like Patrick’s towards autism/questioning someone’s abilities can have a massive impact on someone who is autistic. #casualty.” A fifth wrote: “And thank you for giving us Dylan Keogh back #casualty.”

In other parts of the episode, Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) took custody of his grandchild in emotional scenes. Siobhan McKenzie, played by Melanie Hill, was left rattled after discovering that a whistleblower had leaked the bodycam footage she accidentally sent to everyone to the press. The news was broken to her by Patrick, who revealed that a TV show about the ED was due to be aired as a result.

In another twist, Rash Masum, portrayed by Neet Mohan, was taken aback when his therapist turned up in the ED for treatment and was further shocked when she failed to recognise him.
