EXCLUSIVE: Nurse Rida Amaan, played by Sarah Seggari, is currently moonlighting as a carer for colleague Rash Masum’s dementia-stricken father.

Casualty star Sarah Seggari has theorised about the possibility of romance for her character Rida Amaan and colleague Rash Masum (played by Net Mohan) now that she is a carer for his dementia-stricken father. Although there were hints that they may become romantically entwined in the past in recent weeks viewers have seen their relationship become increasingly complex as their lives are ever more intertwined.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk Sarah shared her theory on what lies ahead for the pair. “I kind of want to shout at both of them and say, ‘What are you doing, like this is weird!’” she laughed.

“They’ve taken over the take a kind of wife and husband [relationship] who’ve been married for 30 years. Fighting over Coco Pops and saying, ‘Don’t talk to me like that – you need to listen to me when I say go and buy these groceries.’

“So I think it’s really muddied it [their relationship] and it’ll be very interesting where it goes, because how if they were going to date, how do you date if you’ve already been inside each other’s house and you’ve hung up the laundry?

“You’ve seen their underwear already. Where do you go from that it’s really hard to go backwards,” she pondered.

Things have become even more complicated as Ashok Masum’s (Kriss Dosanjh) dementia has worsened. In the latest episode, it is revealed that Rida has a horrific injury after he bit her but she is reluctant to tell Rash.

“Cam (Barney Walsh) says you need to go and rationally report it. This is abuse,” she reveals. “But actually this is a human being who’s just lost his way a little bit and I understand I was in the wrong place.

“I shouldn’t have put myself in that position. And I think carers probably toe that line quite a lot,” she reflects.

While Sarah can’t reveal how the storyline will pan out she does concede: “It only gets worse. Because as somebody’s dementia gets worse your workload gets thicker.

“You see the strain on Rida unfortunately. She’s not perfect and makes some mistakes and I’m really proud to show that, even if it might not make me [Rida] look in a great light.

“That’s the human complexities. It’s real life people mess up do bad things, and make bad decisions. They’re tired. They haven’t had enough sleep. Yeah, things happen,” she teases.

Meanwhile, although Rash and Rida may have a difficult relationship actors Sarah and Neet have no such issues and Sarah has nothing but praise for her co-star.

“When our producer started talking about Neet and where his storyline is going I was so happy for him. He’s been on the show for years he deserved it. And then she started telling me that I was involved in it so that’s great.

“I’m just really happy to work with Neet. He’s a brilliant actor and has taught me so much. So it’s great to be able to share and help his storyline.”
