Dick Wolf has arguably replicated the franchise success he’s produced with “Law & Order” when creating the “One Chicago” series of shows. The television franchise initially began in 2012 with “Chicago Fire,” which focuses on the dangerous work and dramatic personal lives of brave Chicago firefighters. In real life, working among colleagues in such an intense line of work can produce a deep bond. After all, there’s a level of trust needed when it comes to firefighting, as one’s life could very well depend on it. In many cases, firefighters probably see their colleagues more than their own family thanks to their time working together.
This could hold especially true for Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) and Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) in “Chicago Fire,” both family men who serve as Firehouse 51’s resident veterans. The two characters are both loyal yet flawed people who strive to be better and mentor the rest of the team together. They’re also there for each other during pivotal moments. For instance, Boden is the one to officially promote Herrmann to lieutenant in Season 7, and in Season 3, Herrmann serves as Boden’s best man during his wedding. With such a wonderful friendship onscreen between the characters, we have to wonder about the actors who portray them. Is the friendship only for the camera, or are Eigenberg and Walker friends in real life?
Eigenberg’s Instagram suggests that the two are close friends
According to David Eigenberg’s social media activity, it looks like the close friendship between him and Eamonn Walker extends beyond the screen. In 2016, the actor posted a picture on his Instagram of the two hanging out together, writing, “That’s me and my best guy … Ever. Love this man.” Apparently, Eigenberg and Walker are also comfortable enough friends to try and bring out the best in each other when it comes to acting in “Chicago Fire.” In an interview with TVMeg.com, the actors explained that it’s common for the two to push each other to give their absolute best in scenes together, even several years into their job now.
In the TVMeg.com interview, Walker said, “The thing is, we care. We care about each other, and we care about the job still because of the love of the people that are here and the family that we have. So, that’s never going to go away.” There’s definitely a friendly atmosphere among the actors in “Chicago Fire.” In a similar case, we already learned through social media activity that Jesse Spencer and Taylor Kinney are also actually friends in real life. With Eigenberg and Walker’s real-life friendship, “Chicago Fire” is not only a consistent TV hit, but also a show that forges strong bonds among its cast.
