Jesse Spencer, known to “Chicago Fire” viewers as Captain Matthew Casey, left the series in its 200th episode on Tuesday. He is one of six actors – along with Taylor Kinney, David Eigenberg, Eamonn Walker, Christian Stolte and Joe Minoso – who were on the show throughout its 10 seasons.

“It was a difficult decision because I loved the show from the beginning,” the Australian-born actor said at a press conference reported by TV Line, “but there are other things I want to do in the future, And there are some families I need to take care of.”

The story is about Casey moving to Oregon to take care of his late best friend Andy Darden’s two sons – and could return to Chicago at any time.

That’s not an appealing prospect for Spencer. “There’s a chance I’ll come back,” he said. “I’m still in Chicago right now. I’m not running to Los Angeles or anywhere, although I could escape for a little while in the winter. My home is here with my wife in Chicago, and so I will still be here.”
