The character comes to the Windy City from Miami, where he was chief for a while, but he actually started his career with CFD. His leadership style is different from that of beloved Chief Wallace Boden.
The new boss takes over the top spot at Firehouse 51 from Boden, who played Eamonn Walker, who left the NBC drama as a main cast member in the Season 12 finale. In the episode, Boden is promoted to Deputy Chief of CFD and later reveals that he wants Herrmann (played by David Eigenberg) to replace him at 51. But first, Herrmann needs to be promoted to captain and take the Battalion Chief’s test, so introducing another chief makes sense for the time being.
The firefighter drama also said goodbye to two other regulars from last season: Kara Killmer’s paramedic Sylvie Brett left the Windy City after finally marrying Matt Casey (played by Jesse Spencer) in Episode 6, while Alberto Rosende left the show in the Season 12 premiere, when his character, firefighter Blake Gallo, moved closer to family.
Mulroney’s many TV credits include Hanna, Shameless, Secret Invasion, Station 19, Crisis, Enlightened, and USA Network’s The Purge. But the actor is perhaps best known for his roles in romantic comedies like My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Family Stone, The Wedding Date, and more recently, Anyone But You. He also co-stars in the upcoming Starz series The Hunting Wives.
