Coronavirus: Holby City and Casualty donate equipment to NHS as filming stops

Holby City and Casualty bosses donate equipment to NHS staff as filming has stopped amid the battle against coronavirus

Holby City and Casualty have donated their equipment to the NHS to fight the coronavirus.

BBC’s stars of the medical soaps use professional equipment and items as props to make the shows appear realistic while on screen.

Now bosses have decided to give personal protective equipment and other useful tools to the NHS frontline as the UK continues its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

TV stars no longer require the equipment as filming has come to a total stand still after the UK government has advised everyone to social distance and stay home where possible.

Executive Producer of Holby City and Casualty Simon Harper praised the “courageous and selfless real-life medics” fighting the coronavirus epidemic.

The TV boss lifted the lid on the plan to help aid the local NHS services where possible with their medical items used on the set of the BBC soaps.

He said in a statement: “Casualty and Holby City are all about celebrating NHS heroism, so we are only too happy to help out and do what we can for the courageous and selfless real-life medics battling this situation.

“We are in discussion with local NHS services and will be donating personal protective equipment (PPE) and other useful medical items to assist them.”

BBC suspended filming for their soaps across the board last week in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

Among the shows which have been temporarily cancelled were Casualty and Holby City.

In a statement, the BBC said: “In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on all BBC Studios continuing dramas will be postponed until further notice.”

Last week, one episode of Holby City was rescheduled because of a lengthened news bullentin.

Their decision was met with a backlash from angry fans who were riled up over missing their favourite soap.

Can you please put the episode on Iplayer tonight? A lot of us were looking forward to watching the episode to distract us from all of the real life drama. Soap fans often lose out, so it would be nice if for once you made proper use of having an alternative platform,” said one angry viewer on Twitter.

A third said: “Can’t Coronavirus respect our 1 HOUR OF HOLBY?????”
