BBC One’s medical drama Casualty will air realistic scenes in a dramatic coronavirus storyline and the crew will be kitted out in full PPE when it returns in January

A first look at medical drama series Casualty shows the cast kitted out in full PPE as coronavirus reaches the emergency department.

The BBC One show is making its return to screens in January and it appears bosses have made the decision to make it more relevant to current times.

Actors Charles Venn, Derek Thompson and actress Amanda Mealing are seen wearing face masks and shields as they encounter another busy day at Holby City Hospital.

The dramatic new storyline is set to focus on “these extraordinary times” and will see characters face “the toughest challenge of their careers” as the deadly virus reaches the hospital’s emergency room.

Connie will suffer with personal demons as she’s in charge of leading the department through the difficult time.

Meanwhile Will is set to feel angry in scenes due to air as he realises the hospital struggles to cope with the increasing pressure.

Fans are so excited for the return of the series and took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One fan penned: “Can’t wait! So happy my Saturday nights will now have casualty on my screens.”
