Elinor Lawless hints at future for Stevie and Dylan in BBC Casualty amidst Patrick drama

Casualty’s Stevie Nash actress Elinor Lawless has spoken about the character’s burgeoning partnership with Dylan Keogh and what the future holds for the pair

Casualty’s Patrick Onley, played by Jamie Glover, has been stirring up trouble in Holby ED since his arrival, making the atmosphere unbearable for the team.

However, his manipulative antics have unexpectedly brought Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) and Dylan Keogh (William Beck) closer together.

The duo has realised that Patrick is causing a rift within the team and are determined to uncover his true motives and gather evidence against him. This sleuthing partnership has led some fans to draw parallels with the iconic detective duo Cagney and Lacey, much to the amusement of Elinor Lawless.

In a recent interview, Elinor shared insights into their on-screen detective work and what lies ahead for Stevie and Dylan. “I’m delighted that there’s been such a positive reaction to the Stevie and Dylan partnership,” she expressed while taking a break from filming.I think those two characters are both quite driven by a sense of justice. And I think the minute that they can have a big hint of the injustice that’s going on their superpower is kind of cutting through the lies.”

“Fairness drives them totally. You’re getting good cop or detective Noir vibes. You have these two characters who are in pursuit of what they see to be right,” she elaborated to the Express.

Despite their outward confidence, Elinor acknowledges that both characters worry about potential backlash to their careers as they delve deeper into investigating the Clinical Lead.

“I think that’s absolutely at play because if there wasn’t then there would be no stakes for them,” she pondered. They are worried that there will be some kind of collateral damage left in Patrick’s wake and that does up the stakes of those characters. And of course for both Stevie and Dylan Holby is kind of their life. It’s like the centre of their very existence. So somebody coming along and potentially threatening that it will make decisions tougher for them in terms of getting this guy out.”

Reflecting on what lies ahead for the characters beyond the current plot, she’s tight-lipped about spoilers but expresses her hope for more screen time for the pair. “I really love working with Will (Beck who plays Dylan). I love that there’s a real spark in it [their relationship]. Hopefully, there will be more storylines where they can get to join forces so you never know,” she hinted.

She also expressed admiration for Patrick’s character, despite the turmoil he brings. “I think what makes Patrick a really successful character is because there is a definite kind of divide and conquer strategy,” she commented. “What’s particularly captivating about this storyline is seeing characters unite for the common good, prioritising it above their personal ambitions or desires,” she added.

“For something like the NHS just when people come together for the greater good [it’s powerful]. I think that’s at stake very much in this story.”
