Coronation Street actress Melanie Hill set to join the cast of Casualty

Melanie Hill will be playing Clinical Nurse Manager Siobhan Mackenzie who is described as a “no-nonsense team leader who looks set to ruffle a few feathers”.

After bidding farewell to the cobbles on ITV’s Coronation Street last year, actress Melanie Hill is now joining the cast of Casualty.

The 61-year-old will be playing the role of Clinical Nurse Manager Siobhan Mackenzie, who is described as a “no-nonsense team leader who looks set to ruffle a few feathers.”

Siobhan is a hardworking nurse, with years of experience, who joins the emergency department at a time when the cracks are beginning to show amongst the staff.

Determined to pull her team together, Siobhan tackles the issues of the ED head-on, using her knowledge and strength to deliver what her department needs.

Speaking on her new BBC role, the television star expressed: “I am delighted to be joining the cast of Casualty and I can’t wait for fans to meet Siobhan.

“She’s a supremely competent manager, who is firm but fair and expects nothing but the best from her nursing team.

“However, get on the wrong side of her and she’ll make mincemeat out of you! I’m sure she’s going to ruffle a few feathers in the Emergency Department.”

Executive Producer of Casualty for BBC Studios, Jon Sen says: “I am excited to welcome Melanie to the team.

“I’ve been a huge admirer of her work for years and it’s wonderful to see her here at Holby.

“We’ve got brilliant stories lined up for Siobhan and can’t wait for the audiences to meet her.”

Melanie will be seen in her new role on Casualty in the new year.

The mum-of-two left Coronation Street last year after seven years in the role of Cathy Matthews on the soap.

Following the breakdown of her relationship with Brian Packham (Played by Peter Gunn), Cathy chose to leave the cobbles behind and went to stay with a friend in Chorlton.

Melanie’s other acting credits include The Bill, drama serial Cilla with Sheridan Smith and Waterloo Road where she played Maggie Croft.

She also starred in the drama series The Syndicate in 2015 as Julie Travers.
