Casualty’s Jacob Masters star teases show return ‘very soon’ with behind the scenes snaps

Casualty fans have been given a glimpse behind the scenes by Charles Venn who plays Jacob Masters as he says that the show will be back “very soon”.

Casualty star Charles Venn, who plays nurse turned paramedic Jacob Masters in the long-running medical drama, has delighted fans by providing an update on when the show will return to screens.

He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share some behind-the-scenes snaps with co-stars Milo Clarke (Teddy Gowan) and Diane Botcher (Jan Jenning).

“Had too much fun today with this mob,” he captioned the image.

This led a fan to enquire when the show will be back on screens, as it hasn’t been on air since September 16.

Although he didn’t give them an exact date, the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant reassured them “very soon”.

It appears that fans don’t have long to wait as Casualty producer Jon Sen promised that the soap will be back “later this year”.

With only eight Saturdays left until the end of the year that means it’s return is imminent.

“So my final episodes will go out in 2024 and we come back on towards the end of the year with a really exciting storyline, which involves Stevie grappling with the PTSD she feels from her upbringing and that dovetails perfectly with an ongoing issue with the hospital,” he told Radio Times.

That storyline will mark the beginning of the end for Stevie as actress Elinor Lawless is set to depart the show after two years.

Also leaving the show is Strictly Come Dancing star Nigel Harman who will be saying goodbye to the role of clinical lead Dr Max Cristie.

The biggest imminent departure from the show is that of Derek Thompson, who has played nurse Charlie Fairhead in the show since the very first episode in 1986.

Kirsty Mitchell who plays Faith Cadogen recently told Express.co.uk that his departure is “emotional”.

“We’re shooting those episodes now and it’s emotional isn’t it?” Kirsty said: “It’s an emotional thing for the character. He is Casualty.”

A show source has confirmed that Charlie’s exit episode will air early next year. His exit storyline will also see the return of Sunetra Sarker as Dr Zoe Hanna.
