EXCLUSIVE: Casualty fans have watched in horror as teenager Natalia Malinovsky has developed obvious feelings for her mother’s ex-boyfriend Iain Dean.

Casualty star Kirsty Mitchell, who plays Faith Cadogan in the long running BBC medical drama, has opened up on how her character will feel when she discoveres that her teenage daughter Natalia Malinovsky (Zoe Brough) has developed feelings for her ex boyfriend Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson). While it has been painfully obvious to vewers that the young woman had a crush on him Iain only seemed to realise in last week’s (Janauary 27) episode.

He tackled her about it and categorically told her that he didn’t have those sort of feelings for her. However it looks like the teen hasn’t accepted his decision and in shocking scenes this week (February 2) she attempts to kiss him and is swiftly pushed away.

However, Faith, who has only just returned to work after undergoing Rehab for drug addiction, is oblivious to what has been going on and actress Kirsty exclusively told Express.co.uk it will come as a surprise to her when she discovers. “When she finds out about Natalia’s feelings for Iain she’s understandably shocked, but suddenly all of Natalia’s behaviour that’s been puzzling Faith or that she has put down to Natalia dealing with the aftermath of Faith’s addiction, makes sense.”

Revealing that she won’t necessarily place the blame on the youngster she said: “Faith is stunned that Iain kept something so important from her.” The popular couple broke up when Iain discovered that she had lied to him about her addiction but they have had a couple of interactions since that appeared to hint at some frisson between them.

When asked if there is any way back for Faith and Ian she teased: “Never say never right?” Despite her optimism for the couple this could prove a huge hurdle to overcome though.

Although Iain has rebuffed Natalia he continues to give her lifts when she needs them and her crush shows no sign of dissipating.

When Faith asks for the keys to her home back Iain is thrown but later makes it clear to her that he still wants to be a part of her children’s lives.

While she is happy about this it appears that it could cause more problems down the line.

Kirsty had previously addressed Iain and Faith’s future in a short online clip ahead of her return to the emergency department.

“It’s not a good idea when you’ve come out of rehab to get involved with somebody,” shesaid.

“It’s better to be focusing on yourself and your family. She still loves Iain and you can tell it’s still there.

“The two of them still love each other but… They’ve been through so much and it’s not a possibility for her, but she loves him,” she admitted.
