Warning: This article contains spoilers for Wednesday’s Chicago Fire episode, “Double Red.”
As the credits rolled on Wednesday’s episode of Chicago Fire, Firehouse 51 said goodbye to paramedic Gianna Mackey (Adriyan Rae), who has found a new place to work where there are opportunities for advancement.
“It’s exciting to introduce a new character that brings a new dynamic to the show, and we’re excited to bring Mackey to life, especially with her connection to Cruz [Joe Minoso],” said the writer. series creator and executive Derek Haas speaks exclusively to EW.
“Adriyan told us she had some personal reasons for leaving Chicago,” he continued. “Hearing that as a showrunner, you have to absolutely respect what an actor needs. All I can say is we love her and I know she’s going to be great.” in some other series. And she came out of 51 in a big way, so there’s a chance we’ll get in.” Maybe check on her. We’re always looking for something to promote crossover! I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Mackey in Firehouse 51.”
Saying goodbye to Mackey may bring up some unresolved feelings of loss following Gabby Dawson’s departure in season 7 – even though Monica Raymund, who played Dawson, came back for a visit.
This season, Gabby’s presence is felt intensely as her best friend Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and her ex Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) play a game of will they will not. In last week’s episode, Sylvie had to deal with jealous Matt, who was treating newcomer Lt. Greg Grainger (Jon Ecker) like trash because he noticed Sylvie and Grainger flirting.
Sylvie matter-of-factly told Matt that he should deal with his feelings for his ex-wife instead of taking out his frustrations on someone else. Burn!
“I have nothing but respect, admiration and love for Monica Raymund, so I keep that door open,” Haas said when asked if she might appear this season. “Any time she wants to swoop in and steal our hearts again, we want her.”
He added, “I have some plans this year but they are schedule dependent, so I don’t have much to tease in case something doesn’t happen. Let’s just say I’m sure Definitely eyeing the end of the season.” .”
