What’s coming up in the ED?
Casualty will air a double edition next week (March 23) to kick off the latest boxset series, ‘Breaking Point’.
The new block of episodes will bring Jacob back to the forefront, while exploring Rash’s mental health in the wake of his father’s death. Fans will also be introduced to newcomers Patrick, Nicole and Tariq.
Here’s a full collection of the biggest moments coming up:
1. Rash hits rock bottom
Next week’s episode will span the past five days in Rash’s life, as he seeks therapy for a breakdown.
In a special episode focusing on Rash, he recounts the events leading up to this with his therapist.
The show then takes us back in time to five days earlier, where a hesitant Rash heads into work, already feeling overwhelmed.
2. Tariq is back
Fans were first introduced to Rash’s cousin Tariq at Ashok’s funeral a few weeks ago, but he’s back on screen next week – now working in the ED.
Killing Eve star Manpreet Bachu has been cast as junior doctor Tariq, who is determined to support Rash on his first day back at work following his father’s death.
3. Meet Patrick
Viewers will also be introduced to newcomer Patrick next week, who doesn’t get off to the best start with Rash.
Jamie Glover has been cast as Patrick, who will be taking over as the ED’s new clinical lead in the wake of Max’s exit.
Patrick is instantly unimpressed with Rash’s fragile state and sends him off his case.
4. Rash tries to prove himself
In Patrick’s office, Rash is defensive and tries to explain his earlier mistake, but Patrick reminds him to stay in control.
He also thinks Rash may have come back to work too soon after his dad’s death and is surprised when Rash mentions he wants to become a consultant via the CESR route.
Despite Patrick explaining how intense the process is, Rash says he’s ready and is determined to prove himself.
But it quickly becomes clear that Patrick might have been right.
5. Meet Nicole
Casualty‘s second new episode will introduce us to junior doctor Nicole, played by Sammy T Dobson.
Nicole is late on her first day at the ED and things only get worse when she is stopped by the cries of a baby abandoned outside the hospital.
With no-one else around, Nicole has no choice but to bring the baby to work with her.
6. Jacob gets an unexpected call
Jacob gets a worrying call from his son Blake, who is in trouble and needs help.
Jacob is called away on a job with Iain and soon gets caught up in a case involving the aforementioned abandoned baby.
7. Ngozi learns a secret about Nicole
As the team work on helping the baby, who has become unwell, Nicole feels guilty for not finding him sooner.
Ngozi calms her and assures Nicole that she did everything right. However, Ngozi quickly notices Nicole has more than just professional concern here.
When Nicole is later sick while treating a patient, she confides in Ngozi about what’s really going on.
8. Jacob makes an alarming discovery
Jacob starts to suspect that his son Blake may have had some involvement in abandoning the baby, and soon has his fears confirmed.
Determined to do the right thing by Blake and his grandson, Jacob then faces a life-changing decision.
9. Rida faces a devastating day
Rida is at the nurses’ station on the phone trying and failing to get inpatient treatment for patient Fern, who has been admitted back into the ED.
Rida is frustrated she isn’t able to help but Fern isn’t surprised and insists she’s heard all this before.
Rida is later worried when she returns to the cubicles and finds Fern isn’t there. She is horrified to discover that Fern has taken her own life in the toilets.
She’s devastated and angry that they don’t have the staff to stop this from happening. Siobhan comforts Rida, but is this enough to stop Rida from questioning her future at the ED?
10. Tariq supports Rash
Tariq offers his support to a devastated Rash after Fern’s death and insists that’s what family is for.
